Coming Soon: SR to Release E-mail Exchanges ... (Not so fast...)

Update: After reviewing the messages and our options (none good), we've decided not to post the messages. Here's the situation:

Of the 50 messages, a few have explicit photos embedded in the message. We can't publish those photos (one shows a toddler's penis). We also have a strong ethical policy against blurring or otherwise manipulating photos.

Some of the messages are completely innocuous. The rest of the messages only refer to attachments. Those attachments are explicit, so we can't publish them.

We've also gone through each message to blur e-mail addresses for privacy reasons.

So, if we don't publish any of the explicit images, and we refuse to blur, crop or otherwise alter them, all we're left with is a bunch of forwarded messages that say things like "take a look at this!"

We decided that did not advance the story in any significant way.

Winterizing helps save on gas bill, repairs

Frigid temperatures and snowy weather seem to be around to stay, and preparing your home for winter may save a bit of money when the next heating bill comes.

Ryan Snow, president of Western Heating in Orem, said it is important to winterize a home in order to prevent heat from escaping and to keep a furnace working correctly. Heat can escape through drafty areas around doors and windows, and Snow said homeowners can attend classes on reducing these leaks from local home-improvement stores like Lowe's or Home Depot.

Snow said one of the most important ways for a homeowner to save money during the winter is simply to change the filter in the furnace and get a furnace tune-up once a year. Filters are usually about $7 to $10 and should be replaced every three months, which can easily be done without professional help.

Most NATO members want U.S., Britain, Canada to do heavy lifting

The ongoing Afghan war against al-Qaida and the Taliban now provides a second, more demanding test case that demonstrates how much the alliance's capabilities and solidarity have withered. In Afghanistan, NATO is failing. Nominally, all 26 alliance members contribute to the war effort, with some 43,000 total troops deployed. But stripping away the forces provided by the United States, Britain and Canada, the alliance has fielded barely 20,000 soldiers this to pacify a country 50 percent larger than Iraq. Many national contingents, Germany's being the most prominent, operate under restrictions that make them unusable except in areas where relative security exists. EUROPE LACKS TROOPS, POLITICAL WILL U.S. officials call for the allies to do more more troops with fewer strings attached. But Europe lacks trained soldiers, adequate stores of equipment and, above all, political will.
